Age of Pyramids. The Old Kingdom is famous as the time when Egyptian pharaohs built the incredible pyramids at Giza. Kings like Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure ordered these massive stone monuments that still stand today.
Perfect Pyramid Builders. King Sneferu was the pharaoh who perfected the art of building pyramids. After him, later kings used his techniques to create even more impressive pyramids.
First Peak of Power. Egypt reached its greatest level of civilization during the Old Kingdom, along the Nile River. This was the first time Egypt became a truly powerful and organized civilization.
Over 500 Years Long. The Old Kingdom lasted from around 2700 BC to 2200 BC, which is a span of about 500 years. This was long enough for pharaohs to build some of the greatest structures in human history.
Kingdom Periods. The Old Kingdom was the first of three special periods called the 'Kingdoms' that marked the highest points of Egyptian civilization. Each Kingdom period showed Egypt at its very best.
