Enormous eyes. Ophthalmosaurus had incredibly huge eyes, which is actually how it got its name, meaning 'eye lizard.' These giant eyes helped it see clearly in the deep, dark waters where it hunted for food.

Speedy swimmer. This sleek sea reptile measured about 13 feet long and weighed as much as a small car, making it perfectly sized to zoom through Jurassic oceans chasing fish and squid.

Tiny sharp teeth. While its teeth were small compared to its body, Ophthalmosaurus had tons of them packed into its jaw, perfect for gripping slippery prey that tried to escape.

Jurassic ocean dweller. Ophthalmosaurus lived during the Middle to Late Jurassic period, swimming in ancient seas while dinosaurs ruled the land above.

Found in Europe. Scientists have discovered many fossils of this creature in Europe, and possibly one species in North America too, showing how widespread these hunters were.
