Cool Facts
Built in record time. The Oriental Pearl Tower was constructed between 1991 and 1994, rising 468 meters (1,535 feet) into the sky. It was an engineering marvel that helped put Shanghai on the map as a modern metropolis.
China's champion. When it was finished, the Oriental Pearl Tower was the tallest structure in all of China. It held this title with pride until 2007, when the nearby World Financial Center was completed and took over the record.
Spheres in the sky. The tower's most eye-catching feature is its two giant glowing pearls that hang from its structure like giant red ornaments. These unique spheres house restaurants, hotels, and observation decks that give visitors spectacular 360-degree views of Shanghai.
Fifteen viewing platforms. With fifteen different observation decks at various heights, you can experience Shanghai from almost every angle. Each deck offers different perspectives of the river, buildings, and city streets below.
Shanghai's top attraction. The Oriental Pearl Tower earned the title of Shanghai's first AAAAA tourist attraction, which is the highest rating in China. Millions of visitors from around the world come each year to see this iconic structure and enjoy the city views.
