Blooming beauties. Peonies are flowering plants that come in many different species. Scientists think there are somewhere between 25 and 40 different kinds of peonies, though most agree on about 33 species.
Found on three continents. Peonies originally grew wild in Asia, Europe, and Western North America. Today, people plant them in gardens all around the world because they're so lovely.
The only kind of its family. Peonies are special because they're the only genus in their entire plant family, called Paeoniaceae. This makes them pretty unique in the plant world!
