Phosphorus

Never found pure. Phosphorus is so reactive that it immediately bonds with other elements, so you'll never find pure phosphorus just sitting in rocks or soil. Scientists have to create it in labs.

Glows in the dark. White phosphorus is one form that actually glows and can catch fire when exposed to oxygen. Red phosphorus is safer and doesn't glow, but both are pretty intense elements.

Powers all life. Every living thing needs phosphorus to build bones, teeth, and DNA. Plants suck it up from the ground, and animals eat plants to get their phosphorus.

Found in rocks. While pure phosphorus doesn't exist in nature, phosphate rock (which contains phosphorus locked with other elements) makes up about 0.1% of Earth's crust.

Super flexible element. Phosphorus can combine with other elements in tons of different ways, making it useful for fertilizers, matches, explosives, and even your body's energy systems.
