A bridge with shops. The Ponte Vecchio is a stone bridge in Florence, Italy, and it's super unusual because people built shops directly onto it. Today those shops sell jewels, art, and souvenirs to visitors from all over the world.

Survived World War II. During World War II, soldiers destroyed almost every bridge in Florence, but they left the Ponte Vecchio standing. It's the only bridge from that time that wasn't destroyed, making it extra special and historic.

From butchers to jewelers. When the bridge was first built, butchers, tanners, and farmers ran shops there. Over time, those messy shops were replaced with fancy jewelers and art dealers, completely changing who worked and shopped on the bridge.

Medieval engineering marvel. Built as a medieval arch bridge, the Ponte Vecchio uses a special design called closed-spandrel arches that made it super strong and long-lasting. This clever building style helped it survive for hundreds of years.
