Desert River Surprise. The Okavango River flows into Botswana and instead of reaching the ocean, it spreads out into a massive delta right in the middle of the Kalahari Desert. This creates a lush oasis where water animals thrive in one of the driest places on Earth.

Inland Water Wonderland. The Okavango Delta is an inland delta, which means the river doesn't flow into a sea or ocean like most rivers do. Instead, the water spreads across the land creating channels, lagoons, and swamps that support incredible wildlife.

Animal Megamall. Millions of animals visit the Okavango Delta to drink, hunt, and raise their families because water is so plentiful there. Elephants, lions, buffalo, hippos, and countless birds gather in this wetland paradise.

Enormous Green Space. The Okavango Delta covers an area larger than many countries and sits at an elevation of about 930 to 1,000 meters above sea level in central Botswana. This giant wetland is part of the Kalahari Desert basin but stays green and wet year-round.
