A sacred triangle. Prambanan honors three forms of God in Hinduism: Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver, and Shiva the Destroyer. This trio is called the Trimūrti, and the entire temple celebrates them together.

Towering stone peak. The main temple rises like a pointed mountain, with smaller temples clustered around it. The spires were built carefully by stacking stone without using cement, showing incredible ancient engineering.

Nearly 1,100 years old. Prambanan was constructed during the 9th century in Java, Indonesia, making it one of the oldest and largest Hindu temples in Southeast Asia. It has survived earthquakes and been restored many times.

A sacred location. The temple sits about 17 kilometers northeast of Yogyakarta city, in a special region of southern Java where Hindu and Buddhist temples both became important landmarks centuries ago.

Carved with details. Skilled artists decorated Prambanan's walls with intricate stone carvings telling stories about Hindu gods and goddesses that people still admire today.
