Manchu rulers. The Qing Dynasty was led by the Manchus, a people from Manchuria, who conquered China and ruled it for almost 300 years, from 1644 to 1912.
Massive territory. At its largest, the Qing Empire stretched from the Sea of Japan in the east all the way to the Pamir Mountains in the west, making it the biggest territory any Chinese dynasty ever controlled.
Super populated. By 1907, over 426 million people lived in the Qing Empire, making it the most crowded state on Earth at that time.
Powerful and wealthy. In 1790, the Qing Dynasty was the fourth-largest empire in the entire world and one of the richest and most advanced civilizations of its time.
China's last dynasty. When the Qing Dynasty ended in 1912 after a revolution, it marked the finish of thousands of years of imperial rule in China.
