Ra, the Sun God of Ancient Egypt

God of the Sun. Ra was the most important sun god in ancient Egypt, especially by the time of the Fifth Dynasty around 2500 BC. Egyptians imagined him traveling across the sky during the day in a magical boat.

First Pharaoh Ever. Ancient Egyptians believed Ra was so special that he ruled as the very first pharaoh, or king, of all Egypt. This made him the ultimate symbol of royal power and authority.

Ruled Everything. Ra wasn't just a sun god. The Egyptians thought he controlled the sky above, the earth below, and even the mysterious underworld where people went after death.

God of Order. Ra represented more than just the sun, heat, and light. He was also the god of order and justice, helping keep the world in balance and running smoothly.
