Dazzling white plumage. Red-billed tropicbirds are mostly white with black markings on their wings and back, plus a striking black mask across their face that makes them look like they're wearing a superhero costume.

Tail streamers galore. Adult birds grow tail streamers that are about twice as long as their whole body. The males show off even longer tails than the females, kind of like peacocks showing off their fancy feathers.

Ocean-loving wanderers. These birds live across tropical oceans around the world, including the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Different groups of the same species live in different ocean regions, each with tiny differences in size and coloring.

Red bill, orange variations. Their bill is bright red, which is where they get their name. One subspecies that lives near the Middle East has a more orange bill instead of pure red.

Named long ago. Carl Linnaeus, a famous scientist, first described this bird in 1758 when he created a big list of all the species he knew about.
