Made from many materials. Ribbons can be woven from natural fibers like silk, cotton, and jute, or from human-made materials like polyester and nylon. Each type of material gives ribbons different looks and feelings, from shiny satin to bumpy velvet.

Used everywhere around the world. People use ribbons in their hair, wrapped around their bodies as clothing, and tied on gifts and packages. You'll see ribbons decorating buildings, animals, and pretty much anything that needs a fancy touch.

More than just pretty. While ribbons look beautiful, they're also super useful for tying things together and holding them closed. Ribbons can even be symbolic, meaning they represent important ideas or causes that matter to people.

Fancy fabrics make fancy ribbons. Some of the fanciest ribbons are made from satin (which is smooth and shiny), organza (which is see-through and floaty), silk (which is elegant), grosgrain (which is sturdy and textured), and velvet (which is soft and plush).
