Towering Rocky peaks. Rocky Mountain National Park sits in the Front Range of the Rockies, with mountains that rise thousands of feet into the sky. The park is located about 55 miles northwest of Denver, Colorado.

The Colorado River starts here. The headwaters of the Colorado River, which flows across the western United States, are born in the northwestern part of this park. The Continental Divide runs right through the middle, splitting water that flows to different oceans.

Home to wild animals. Elk, mule deer, bears, and mountain lions roam the park's forests and meadows. The park protects a wide variety of wildlife in different habitats, from thick woods to open tundra.

Mountains meet frozen peaks. The park has everything from dense forests at lower elevations to alpine lakes and mountain tundra near the summits. Different climates and environments create homes for many different plants and animals.

A place between two towns. Rocky Mountain National Park sits nestled between Estes Park to the east and Grand Lake to the west, making it easy for visitors to reach this natural wonder.
