Cool Facts
Both feet leave ground. Unlike walking where one foot always touches the ground, when you run there is a special moment called an aerial phase where both of your feet are up in the air at the same time. This is what makes running feel so bouncy and fast.
Left leg, right leg, repeat. Running follows a pattern: you push forward hard with one leg, then land your foot and recover your balance, then push with the other leg. This sequence repeats over and over to create your running style, called your gait.
Speeds vary widely. Running can be slow and steady like jogging, or super fast like sprinting. All these different speeds use the same basic movements, just at different tempos.
Most accessible sport. Running has been called the world's most accessible sport because you don't need special equipment or a fancy place to do it. You can run almost anywhere, anytime.
