Lockable metal boxes. Safes are hollow containers made of metal or tough plastic with a door that locks shut to keep your valuables secure inside.

Bank teller safes. Banks use special safes with a narrow slot so customers can drop money in without opening the door, plus a time-delay lock that slows down thieves.

Fire protection. Many safes are built extra thick and strong so they can protect important documents and valuables from burning in a fire.

Fixed or moveable. Some safes bolt permanently to walls or counters so thieves cannot carry them away, while others are portable and can be moved to different locations.
