It's just clover. A shamrock is actually a type of clover plant, the same kind you might find in fields or lawns. The word comes from Irish and simply means 'young clover'.

Ireland's symbol. Shamrocks are deeply connected to Ireland and appear on Irish coins, flags, and emblems. The plant has become so linked to Irish identity that people wear shamrocks on St. Patrick's Day.

Named in Irish. The word shamrock comes from the Irish word 'seamróg', which is a small version of 'seamair'. It basically just means the clover plant in the Irish language.

Three leaves. Like most clovers, shamrocks typically have three leaflets on each stem. This three-leaf shape has made them especially meaningful in Irish culture and symbolism.
