Fish-like wiggles. Silverfish move side to side like fish swimming through water, which is how they got their name. Their silvery gray color makes them look even more like little underwater creatures.

Sugar and starch lovers. Silverfish are carbohydrate fans, meaning they love eating sugary and starchy foods. They munch on things like flour, cereal, paper, and glue found around kitchens and basements.

Super ancient bugs. Silverfish are primitive insects that have been around for over 300 million years, making them older than dinosaurs. They belong to an order called Zygentoma and are one of the oldest types of insects on Earth.

Wingless wanderers. Unlike most insects, silverfish have no wings and cannot fly. Instead, they scurry around on their legs, hiding in dark, damp places like closets and under sinks.

Speedy and sneaky. Silverfish are fast runners for their tiny size and love hiding in dark spots during the day. You're most likely to spot them at night when they come out looking for food.
