Sea Robins

Walking legs. Sea robins have special finger-like rays on their fins that work like legs, letting them actually walk and feel around on the sandy ocean bottom looking for food.

Rumbling sounds. Sea robins can make grunting and croaking noises by vibrating special muscles near their swim bladder, which is why some people call them 'robins' - their sounds are a bit like a bird.

Deep ocean dwellers. These fish live on the seafloor (demersal means they stay near the bottom) in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, where it's dark and cold.

Fancy fan fins. Sea robins have large, colorful fan-shaped fins that spread out like a peacock's tail and help them move smoothly across the sandy bottom.

Part of a big family. Sea robins belong to the Triglidae family, which also includes their cousins called gurnards that live in other parts of the world's oceans.
