Dog teams pull hard. A sled dog racing team usually has 4 to 20 dogs harnessed together, and they work as a coordinated unit to pull the musher and sled across snowy terrain as fast as possible.

Racing in extreme cold. Sled dog racing happens in the Arctic regions, including parts of the United States, Canada, Russia, Greenland, and some European countries where winters are long and snow is plentiful.

Speed and timing win. Mushers stand on the back of the sled and guide the dogs along a marked course, and the team that completes the route in the fastest time is declared the winner.

Built for running. Sled dogs are specially bred and trained to endure cold weather and run long distances, making them incredible athletes of the winter world.

Ancient to modern sport. What started as a way to travel and hunt in snowy lands has become an organized competitive sport with rules, famous races, and dedicated dog racing teams.
