Spinning Wheel

Turns fiber into thread. A spinning wheel takes loose fibers like wool or cotton and twists them together into strong thread or yarn that can be woven into cloth. The spinning motion is what makes loose fluff into something useful.

Powered by a pedal. Instead of using your hands to spin, you pump a foot pedal that makes a big wheel turn, which spins a smaller shaft super fast. This lets people make thread much quicker than doing it all by hand.

Foundation for factories. The spinning wheel was so important that it inspired inventors to create the spinning jenny and spinning frame, which were bigger and faster machines. These new machines eventually replaced spinning wheels and helped start the Industrial Revolution.

Made textiles possible. Before spinning wheels, making cloth was incredibly slow and took forever. With spinning wheels, people could make enough thread and yarn to weave beautiful fabrics, clothes, and all sorts of textiles.

Used around the world. Spinning wheels became popular in Europe, Asia, and many other places because they made textile production so much easier. They were one of the most important tools in homes and workshops for hundreds of years.
