Hourglass shape. The talking drum has a special squeezed-in-the-middle shape that helps it make different sounds. This unique form lets it produce a wider range of pitches than regular drums.
Speech in sound. By tightening and loosening leather cords with arm pressure, drummers can create tones that sound like human words and sentences. It's like the drum is actually talking, even though it's making music.
