Founded in the 5th century. Tbilisi was established around 450 CE by a Georgian king named Vakhtang I, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

Home to nearly 1.3 million people. More than a third of all people living in Georgia call Tbilisi home, making it by far the country's largest city.

Built on the Kura River. The city sits on the banks of this important river, which has shaped its location and helped it grow into a major trading hub.

Capital through empires. Tbilisi served as the seat of power for many Georgian kingdoms over its long history, and from 1801 to 1917 it was the center of Russian rule over the entire Caucasus region.

Bridge between continents. Located where Europe and Asia meet, Tbilisi has been a natural gathering place for different cultures, languages, and ideas for centuries.
