Located in Southeast Asia. Vietnam sits at the eastern edge of Mainland Southeast Asia, bordered by China to the north and Laos and Cambodia to the west. It has a long coastline along the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Super populous nation. With over 102 million people, Vietnam is the world's 16th-most populous country. That's more people than any country in Africa or South America!

Communist government. Vietnam is one of only two communist countries in Southeast Asia. Its capital is Hanoi, but its largest and most famous city is Ho Chi Minh City.

Sizeable territory. Vietnam covers about 331,000 square kilometres, making it roughly the size of Poland or the state of New Mexico.

Water all around. Vietnam has shared and disputed maritime borders with other countries along the South China Sea, which is important for fishing and trade.
