Peru's power center. Lima is where Peru's government, culture, money, and business all happen. It's the biggest city in the whole country and makes all the important decisions for Peru.

City in the desert. Lima sits in a sandy desert zone right on Peru's central coast, which might seem like a strange place to build a city. But it's perfect because three rivers flow through the area, bringing water to the dry land.

Ocean and rivers meet. The city overlooks the Pacific Ocean and sits in the valleys where the Chillón, Rímac, and Lurín Rivers come together. These waterways were super important for helping the city grow and survive in the desert.

Gateway to Peru. Lima's Jorge Chávez Airport and seaport are located in a nearby area called Callao, making Lima the main entrance point for people and goods coming to Peru. Ships and planes connect this city to the whole world.

A massive metropolis. Lima's city limits spread across two provinces that have run themselves since 2002. It has grown into one of South America's largest and most important cities.
