Named after a president. The teddy bear got its name from Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States. People started calling the toy after him, and the name stuck forever.

Invented twice at once. Two toymakers created the teddy bear at almost the same time in the early 1900s: Richard Steiff in Germany and Morris Michtom in the United States. Neither knew the other was making one.

Instant favorite toy. Teddy bears became wildly popular with children right away and have stayed beloved for over 100 years. They've been the stars of countless stories, songs, and movies.

Cultural icon. The teddy bear became so famous that it's celebrated in art, music, and entertainment all around the world. It's one of the few toys that became a piece of history.
