Enormous planned city. Teotihuacan was one of the largest cities in the ancient world, with a grid layout so organized that thousands of people lived and worked there in harmony. At its peak around 450 CE, it may have had over 100,000 residents.

Amazing pyramids. The city contained two massive pyramids: the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. These towering structures were built with incredible precision using stone blocks.

A vanished civilization. Nobody knows for certain who built Teotihuacan or what they called themselves, since the city was already abandoned and mysterious to the Aztecs who found it centuries later. The name "Teotihuacan" actually comes from the Aztec language and means 'the place where the gods were created.'

Rich with art. The city had colorful murals, sculptures, and artwork decorating homes, temples, and public spaces. These decorations told stories and show us what daily life was like for the people who lived there.

Near Mexico City. Located about 40 kilometers northeast of modern Mexico City, Teotihuacan is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico today. Visitors can still climb the pyramids and walk the ancient streets.
