Terra Nova Expedition

Ship named Terra Nova. The expedition's ship was called the Terra Nova, which carried Scott's team across dangerous icy seas to Antarctica. The ship was specially built to handle the freezing waters and pack ice of the polar region.

Race to the South Pole. Scott wanted to be the first person ever to reach the geographic South Pole. This meant traveling across frozen wilderness farther south than anyone had gone before.

Important science missions. The team didn't just explore for adventure, they collected rocks, studied animals, and made observations about Antarctica's weather and geography. Scott had learned from his first Antarctic trip with the Discovery Expedition and wanted to continue that scientific work.

Three year journey. The entire expedition lasted from 1910 to 1913, which means Scott and his team spent years planning, traveling, and exploring one of Earth's most extreme places. Such a long mission required incredible supplies and preparation.

Geographic discoveries. The expedition's goals included finding out more about Antarctica's land, its animals, and how it connects to the rest of the world. This exploration helped scientists understand the South Pole region better than ever before.
