Over 700 islands. The Bahamas isn't just one island, but a whole archipelago with more than 700 islands plus over 2,500 cays (small islands) spread across the Atlantic Ocean. That's a lot of places to explore!
Massive ocean territory. Even though the islands themselves aren't huge, the Bahamas controls an enormous stretch of ocean, about 470,000 square kilometers. That's a territory bigger than many countries.
Located in the Caribbean. The Bahamas sits in the Caribbean, positioned north of Cuba and northwest of the island of Hispaniola. It's also southeast of Florida, making it close to the United States.
Capital is Nassau. The largest city and capital of the Bahamas is Nassau, which sits on the island of New Providence. This is where most of the country's government and people are located.
Tropical island chain. All these islands and cays are part of the Lucayan Archipelago, a beautiful chain of islands in the Atlantic Ocean known for their white sand beaches and clear turquoise waters.
