Cool Facts
Two become one. In a three-legged race, partners use rope or a cloth to tie the left leg of one runner to the right leg of their teammate, so they have to move together as if they were one person with four legs total.
Balance and rhythm. The trickiest part is getting your steps to match perfectly with your partner's steps. If one person runs too fast or takes bigger strides than the other, you'll both tumble to the ground.
Ancient fun. Three-legged races have been popular at school sports days and family picnics for over a hundred years, and kids around the world still race this way today.
Teamwork wins. You can't win a three-legged race alone, even if you're the fastest runner in your class. Success depends on how well you and your partner work together and communicate during the race.
