Building block game. Jenga uses 54 wooden blocks stacked in layers of three. Players take turns removing one block from anywhere in the tower and carefully placing it on top, making the structure more and more wobbly.
Swahili word origin. The name 'Jenga' comes from the Swahili word 'kujenga,' which means 'to build or construct.' Swahili is spoken in East Africa.
Created by Leslie Scott. British game designer Leslie Scott invented Jenga and it became so popular that the company Hasbro now markets it all around the world.
Physics and patience. Every time you remove a block and put it on top, the tower becomes more off-balance and shaky. The game ends when someone makes it tumble down.
