Titan Beetle

Absolutely massive. Titan beetles grow over 170 millimeters long, which is about as long as a pencil or a smartphone. They're the longest beetles in the world and rank among the biggest insects ever discovered.

Sharp spines everywhere. These beetles are covered in sharp spines that stick out from their bodies like armor plating. These spines protect them from hungry predators that might try to eat them.

Crushing jaws. Titan beetles have incredibly powerful jaws called mandibles that can snap down with tremendous force. They use these jaws as weapons to defend themselves against anything that threatens them.

Brief adult life. Adult titan beetles only live for a few weeks before they die. During that short time, they focus on finding mates so they can lay eggs for the next generation.

Rainforest home. Titan beetles live in the tropical rainforests of South America, where they thrive in the warm, humid climate. They're native to Neotropical regions, which means the tropical parts of Central and South America.
