Cool Facts
Super accurate stargazer. Tycho Brahe mapped the night sky with incredible precision, creating the best star charts anyone had ever made without using a telescope. His observations were so detailed that scientists used his data for centuries.
Lost his nose. In a duel over a math disagreement, Tycho lost part of his nose and wore a metal nose replacement for the rest of his life. Despite this, he continued his important work observing the stars.
His own island observatory. The King of Denmark gave Tycho his own island called Hven where he built an amazing observatory called Uraniborg. He had instruments of his own design and even lived there while studying the sky.
Last before telescopes. Tycho made his greatest discoveries using only his eyes and special instruments, right before telescopes were invented. He proved that astronomy could be a precise science based on careful measurement.
Helped Johannes Kepler. After Tycho died, the famous astronomer Johannes Kepler used all of Tycho's careful observations to discover how planets actually move around the sun.
