Harvest celebration. Vaisakhi happens every April 13 or 14 and celebrates when farmers gather in their crops after winter. It is one of the most important festivals in Punjab and Northern India.

New year festival. For many people in India, Vaisakhi marks the start of the solar new year, a fresh beginning with new hopes and plans. It is a time when people feel ready to start something new.

Farmers' favorite day. Vaisakhi is especially important to farmers because it comes right when the harvest is ready. Families celebrate together with feasts, music, and dancing to give thanks for a good crop.

Many names, one festival. This festival goes by different names in different places, including Baisakhi, Mesadi, and Basoa, but they all celebrate the same spring season and new beginnings.

Sikh connection. While many Indians celebrate Vaisakhi as the solar new year, Sikhs follow their own Nanakshahi calendar and celebrate their new year on a different date called Chet.
