A treasure from Greece. The Venus de Milo is an ancient marble statue carved during the Hellenistic period, probably between 160 and 110 BC. It was discovered on the Greek island of Milos in 1820 and has been one of the most famous sculptures in the entire world ever since.

Made without arms. Nobody knows for sure if the statue originally had arms or was created as a statue without them. When it was found on the island, the arms were already missing, which makes her even more of a mystery.

Lives in Paris now. After being discovered, the Venus de Milo was brought to the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, where it still stands today. Millions of people visit the museum each year, and many come specifically to see this incredible ancient sculpture.

Represents a goddess. The statue shows Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty, carved in beautiful white marble. Artists have copied and admired this statue for nearly 200 years because of its elegant design and graceful style.

Full of puzzles. Experts still debate exactly when the Venus de Milo was made and what she originally looked like with arms. These mysteries make people keep studying and discussing the statue, even today.
