Special trucks help. Waste collectors use big trucks with mechanical arms that can grab and lift heavy trash cans all by themselves, making the job faster and safer.

Sorting our stuff. They collect both garbage and recyclables, which then get sorted at special facilities where metal, plastic, and paper are separated to be made into new products.

Hard physical work. Being a waste collector is one of the most physically demanding jobs because workers walk, carry heavy items, and repeat the same movements thousands of times each day.

Keeps places clean. Without waste collectors, neighborhoods, cities, and businesses would be buried in trash, which would make people sick and spread disease.
