Combines many subjects. Mechanical engineers mix physics, mathematics, and materials science together to figure out how to design machines, make them, and keep them running smoothly.

Makes and fixes things. Mechanical engineers don't just design machines on paper, they also manufacture them in factories and maintain them to make sure they keep working right.

Deals with force and motion. The main job of mechanical engineering is understanding how forces push and pull on things, and how to make machines that move in the ways we want them to.

The broadest branch. Mechanical engineering covers more types of machines than almost any other kind of engineering, from tiny gears to giant ships and everything in between.
