Yellowfin Tuna

Built for speed. Yellowfin tuna can swim at speeds up to 50 miles per hour, making them some of the fastest fish in the ocean. Their streamlined bodies and powerful muscles help them chase down prey and escape bigger predators.

Tropical water travelers. Yellowfin tuna live in warm tropical and subtropical oceans everywhere on Earth. They roam the open pelagic waters far from shore, where they hunt for smaller fish and squid.

Yellow-striped speedsters. These fish get their name from the yellow stripes and yellow-colored fins that run along their bodies. Young yellowfin tuna have even brighter yellow markings that fade a bit as they grow older.

Incredible hunters. Yellowfin tuna work together in groups called schools to hunt and catch fish. Their excellent eyesight and speed make them nearly unstoppable predators in the open ocean.

Seriously large fish. Adult yellowfin tuna can grow up to 6 feet long and weigh over 400 pounds. Some of the biggest ones ever caught were even longer and heavier than that.
