Held in Munich. The 1972 Summer Olympics took place in Munich, West Germany, from August 26 to September 11, 1972. This was Germany's second time hosting the Summer Olympics, following the 1936 Berlin Games.

Second city honor. Munich became only the second city in the United States to host the Summer Olympics twice when counting different host cities. The United States was the first country to achieve this feat with different cities.
