Creator of Winnie. A. A. Milne wrote the Winnie-the-Pooh books that have charmed readers for nearly 100 years. His stories about a honey-loving bear and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood became so famous that people often forget he wrote other things too.
Poet for kids. Before Winnie made him super famous, Milne wrote wonderful poetry for children. His poems were playful and imaginative, helping kids see the world in fun new ways.
Playwright first. Milne started out writing plays for adults before he ever created children's books. He was already a successful writer when he decided to try something completely different with his son's toy bear.
Soldier twice. Milne served as a lieutenant in the First World War and later as a captain in the Home Guard during the Second World War. He lived through two huge wars while creating stories of peace and friendship.
Real bear inspiration. Milne's son Christopher Robin had a stuffed bear that inspired the character Winnie-the-Pooh. Christopher Robin's toys and adventures became the heart of the beloved stories.
