Meat-eating hunter. Abelisaurus was a carnivore that walked on two powerful back legs and used its strong jaws to catch prey. It belonged to a special group of meat-eating dinosaurs called abelisaurids.
About as long as a car. This dinosaur stretched about 7.4 metres from nose to tail, which is roughly the length of a small bus. Scientists aren't completely sure of its exact size because we only have part of its skull to study.
South American dino. Abelisaurus lived during the Campanian age, which was about 80 million years ago in what is now South America. This continent was home to many unique dinosaurs that weren't found anywhere else on Earth.
Mysterious fossil. We know about Abelisaurus from just one partial skull that was discovered. Scientists use this single piece to figure out what the whole dinosaur looked like and how it lived.
