Oldest continuous culture. Aboriginal Australians have lived in Australia for at least 65,000 years, making their culture one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations. They developed unique ways of living that worked perfectly with Australia's different environments.
Hundreds of languages. Aboriginal Australians spoke over 250 different languages before European arrival, each connected to specific regions and peoples. Today, some languages are still spoken, though many are endangered and people are working hard to keep them alive.
Amazing art traditions. Aboriginal Australians created beautiful dot paintings, rock art, and carvings that told stories about their land, animals, and ancestors. These artworks were made for thousands of years and are still created today by Aboriginal artists.
Deep land knowledge. Aboriginal Australians had incredible knowledge of their environment, including which plants were safe to eat, where to find water, and how animals behaved. They used this knowledge to thrive in deserts, rainforests, and coastal areas across the continent.
Complex societies. Aboriginal Australians had organized communities with laws, customs, and spiritual beliefs that guided how people lived together. Family connections and caring for the land were central to their way of life.
