Akbar the Great

Ruled for 49 years. Akbar became emperor in 1556 when he was very young and needed help from his regent, Bairam Khan. He ruled until 1605, making him one of the longest-reigning Mughal emperors.

Expanded the empire. With help from his regent, Akbar conquered and united many different kingdoms and territories across the Indian subcontinent. This made the Mughal empire much larger and more powerful.

Called the Great. Historians remember Akbar as one of the greatest Mughal emperors because of how skillfully he ruled, expanded his lands, and kept his empire strong and organized.

Followed his father. Akbar succeeded his father, Humayun, and took the Mughal throne. Even though he was young and inexperienced at first, he grew into an excellent leader.
