The Roman Army

Lasted 2,000 years. The Roman Army existed from the Roman Kingdom all the way through the Roman Republic and the entire Roman Empire, serving Rome for more than twenty centuries while constantly adapting and improving.

Highly organized structure. The Roman Army wasn't just a bunch of soldiers fighting randomly. It had strict ranks, training programs, tactics, and equipment that made it far more advanced than armies of other ancient civilizations.

Grew massively in size. What started as a small militia protecting Rome gradually grew into one of the largest military forces ever seen in the ancient world, allowing Rome to conquer and control huge territories.

Always changing and improving. While the Roman Army kept core traditions and values that lasted throughout its entire existence, it was constantly changing its weapons, armor, tactics, and organization as it learned from battles and new challenges.

Served all of Rome's eras. The same army that protected Rome when it was just a kingdom later served the Republic and finally the Empire, proving its lasting importance to Roman civilization for thousands of years.
