Animal Farm (1954 Film)

animation · allegory · classic film

Made in 1954. This animated film was created 9 years after George Orwell wrote the original book Animal Farm. It brought Orwell's story to life with colorful drawings and moving pictures.

Animals take over. The story follows farm animals who chase away their human owner and try to create a fair society where all animals are equal. But things don't go as planned.

Voiced by one actor. Maurice Denham provided all the animal voices, making each character unique through different accents and expressions. This was an impressive feat of voice acting.

Hand-drawn animation. John Halas and Joy Batchelor directed and produced this film using traditional animation techniques, drawing thousands of frames by hand to make the animals move.
