Apatosaurus

Huge long-necked dinosaur. Apatosaurus was about 69 to 75 feet long, roughly the length of three school buses parked end to end, and weighed as much as three elephants put together.

Ate only plants. Unlike meat-eating dinosaurs, Apatosaurus munched on plants and trees all day long to fuel its enormous body.

Lived 152 million years ago. Apatosaurus walked the earth during the Late Jurassic period, long before Tyrannosaurus Rex ever existed.

Found in the American West. Fossils of Apatosaurus have been discovered in places like Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico, all preserved in ancient rock formations called the Morrison Formation.

Named by a scientist. A paleontologist named Othniel Charles Marsh discovered and named the first Apatosaurus way back in 1877, before we even had cars or airplanes.
