Massive sea hunter. Shonisaurus was one of the biggest ichthyosaurs ever, a kind of ocean reptile with a long body and powerful fins that hunted in ancient seas.
Found in Nevada. Scientists have discovered at least 37 fossil remains of Shonisaurus in Nevada's Luning Formation, giving us clues about what this creature looked like.
Super ancient swimmer. Shonisaurus lived about 227 million years ago during the Late Triassic period, long before the famous dinosaurs like T. rex roamed the Earth.
Lived in multiple places. While most fossils come from Nevada, other Shonisaurus relatives have been found in Canada and Alaska, showing they swam across wide areas of ancient seas.
