Ancient medicine makers. Apothecaries were skilled at mixing herbs, powders, and liquids to create medicines. They needed to know which plants and ingredients could heal different illnesses.

Part shop, part doctor. Unlike today, apothecaries didn't just hand over medicine. They often examined patients themselves and gave advice, making them part pharmacist and part physician.

Secret recipes and knowledge. Apothecaries guarded their formulas carefully and learned their trade through years of apprenticeship, passing down knowledge from master to student.

Still called chemist. In Britain today, people still call pharmacies 'chemists,' a word that comes straight from the apothecary tradition.
