Ancient sport. Tug of war was played in ancient Egypt, China, India, and Greece thousands of years ago. People have been testing their pulling power for so long that it's one of the world's oldest team games.
Olympic games. From 1900 to 1920, tug of war was an official Olympic sport where countries sent teams to compete. Today it's no longer in the Olympics, but it's still played in schools and competitions all around the world.
The rope matters. A good tug of war rope is thick, strong, and long so both teams can grip it properly. The team that pulls the rope a certain distance in their direction wins the match.
Teamwork wins. Success in tug of war isn't just about individual strength, it's about how well teammates work together and coordinate their pulls. A team that moves as one unit can beat a stronger but uncoordinated group.
