Cool Facts
Islands in bunches. An archipelago is when lots of islands sit close together in the water instead of being all alone. They can be in huge oceans, smaller seas, or even big lakes.
Indonesia rules. Indonesia is the biggest archipelago country on Earth, made up of thousands of islands spread across the ocean. It's so big that it has more islands than any other country in the world.
Found everywhere. Archipelagos pop up all over the planet, from the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific to the Galapagos Islands near South America. Japan, the Bahamas, and even parts of Canada all have famous archipelagos.
Volcanic or broken. Some archipelagos form when volcanoes erupt underwater and create islands, while others happen when one big piece of land breaks apart over millions of years.
