Still under construction. Even though work started in 1883, the Sagrada Família is still being built today. It's expected to be finished sometime in the coming decades, making it one of the longest construction projects ever.
The world's tallest church. This basilica is taller than any other church in the world. Its towers and spires reach up into the Barcelona sky like something from a storybook.
Designed by Antoni Gaudí. The famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí took over the project in 1883 and completely transformed it with his own unique style. He mixed natural shapes with religious symbolism throughout the entire design.
Officially blessed by the Pope. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church and declared it a basilica, making it an important place for Catholics around the world.
A UNESCO treasure. In 2005, parts of the Sagrada Família were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of Gaudí's incredible architectural genius.
